My name is Tim DeMaio, and Berserker Built was created from a place of resilience, transformation, and purpose.

After serving ten years in the U.S. Navy, and spending several years working overseas as a contractor and in the Intelligence Community, I found myself fighting a battle far from any battlefield, one against the invisible wounds of service.

Multiple Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI), and lasting physical trauma became part of daily life. Severe migraines, relentless tinnitus, spinal and muscular damage, and the weight of carrying it all in silence weren’t just symptoms, they became my reality.

I pursued help through NICoE at Walter Reed and specialists around the world. I tried treatments, therapies, and prescriptions, but nothing truly brought me back to who I used to be. I felt disconnected, overwhelmed, and searching for a way to rebuild my life with meaning again.

That turning point came after a transformative Ibogaine treatment in Mexico. When I returned home, I put my hands back to work, and Berserker Built was born.

Through creating functional art from skateboards, I found a form of healing I didn’t know I still had in me. What started as a personal outlet became a mission bigger than myself, building pieces that carry a story, a purpose, and a message: we can rebuild.

Every deck we create is made to represent strength, grit, and identity, and every purchase helps fuel our commitment to give back. Berserker Built donates 75% of proceeds to organizations that provide life-changing care for veterans and first responders battling PTSD, TBIs, suicidal struggles, addiction, and other challenges.

My late wife, who tragically passed from cancer at only 34 years old, and I also co-founded Operation Path Forward, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping our nation’s heroes heal through nature, community, and holistic support. From morale-boosting care packages to wilderness retreats in Montana, OPF exists to remind our brothers and sisters of one simple truth:

You are not alone.

OPF is also expanding its mission to support veterans and their families facing cancer diagnoses, offering them a place to breathe, reset, and reconnect, away from the exhausting and heartbreaking road that cancer can force a family to walk. Our goal is to create a space where healing isn’t just possible for the individual, but for the entire family.
